Cpl Michael ‘Nick’ Basca Plaque - 4th Armored Division
Details:
On the outside wall of the retaining wall of the churchyard. The plaque overlooks the intersection.
A rectangular marble plaque inscribed with a commemoration message written in French and English in black and incised lettering. On the top of the plaque is the photo of Cpl Basca with the insignias of the 66th Armored Field Artillery and 4th Armored Division. The plaque was inaugurated on July 16, 2022.
On November 11, 1944, Cpl Basca was killed in Hampont, in the woods near Obreck. The tank he was commanding was hit by a German shell that pierced through his vehicle. Buried initially at the American Catholic Military Cemetery in Limey, France, his body was disinterred in December 1948 and sent home. Prior to the war, CPL Basca was a professional football player playing for the Philadelphia Eagles.
