Chaplain (Father) Patrick Gallagher was born (1879) in Ireland and served as a Knight of Columbus US Army Chaplain during the First World War. The Knights of Columbus operated numerous “Clubhouses” to support the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) in France during the war. These clubhouses where “Everyone was Welcome and Everything was Free” were located near the US Army training bases and ports.
Chaplain Gallagher was an Order of St. Augustine (OSA) priest and served in Knight of Columbus Angouleme (Bordeaux),Clubhouse. On March 31, 1919 while driving from the Knights of Columbus Headquarters at the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) Port in St. St-Nazaire, Gallagher was injured in a vehicle accident. Three other soldiers were killed and Father Gallagher later died on April 1, 1919.
