91st Bomber Group Plaque
Details:
Inside the pub.
A framed and glazed picture printed with 5 insignias of the 91st Bomber Group and associated units which are the 322nd Bombardment Squadron, 323nd Bombardment Squadron, 324th Bombardment Squadron, and the 401st Bombardment Squadron. The plaque was donated in 1984 to the Eagle pub by the 91st BGMA.
This pub was frequented by both RAF crews and 8th Air Force crews stationed in the area. Bassingbourn where the 91st Bomb Group was based (Memphis Belle) is just up the road. The Eagle pub claims to have been serving Cambridge, England since 1525. During the Second World War, Allied airmen, who drank and socialized at The Eagle, used wax candles, petrol lighters, and lipstick to write their names, squadron numbers, and other doodles onto the ceiling of the rear bar.
