LTC Wayne W. Pierce Plaque

Mounted on the wall to the left of the entrance door of the church.
A simple, rectangular, red plaque with a white border inscribed in French in white lettering. This plaque is dedicated to LTC Wayne W. Pierce of the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment. In August 2007, he became an honorary citizen of Amfreville.
On June 9, 1944, an airborne attack from La Fière was launched by company C of the 325th GIR commanded by Captain Dave E. Stokley. The losses are numerous and Captain Stokley is injured. He was replaced by Captain Wayne W. Pierce who managed to reach Cauquigny after hard fighting.
