Inside the church, on the left-hand side of SSgt Petrillo’s plaque.

Plaque

A rectangular cast bronze plaque supported by an angled stand and is inscribed in English in raised lettering. On the top of the plaque is the depiction of the 447th Bomb Group insignia, 3 B-17s in formation, and the insignia of the 8th Air Force. The plaque commemorates SSgt Edward E. Leighty who served as Left Waist Gunner on the B-17 #42-30009 “Feather Merchant” of the 709th Bomb Squadron. He was with Lt William R. Greenwel’s crew while stationed in Rattlesden.
