A metallic inscribed plaque.
The plague remembers the Commander of the 3rd Battalion of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment “Currahee” of the 101st Airborne Division., Major Oliver Horton. In the aftermath of Operation Market Garden, the town of Opheusden became part of the new front line (Battle of the Nijmegen salient or the Defense of the Nijmegen bridgehead). Major Horton was killed near this spot leading an attack during this battle. The bridge is dedicated to Major Horton.
Major Horton is buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, Netherlands.
