Monument
The monument is a low stone wall with an inscribed brass plaque built into the front of a small garden area.
The memorial remembers Technical Grade 5 Jurgen “Jerry” Krohnke who was killed on this spot on September 20, 1944 while liberating the town of Bocholtz, Netherlands. T5 Krohnke was assigned to the 125th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized) of the 113th Cavalry Group “Red Horse” which was supporting the 30th Infantry Division attack into the enemy West Wall defenses.
T5 Krohnke was from Schleswig, Iowa and was buried in the Henri-Chapelle Memorial and Cemetery in Belguim. A cenotaph remembers him in his hometown of Schleswig, Iowa.
