M4 Sherman “Able Abe” Tank- 40th Tank Battalion

An M4 Sherman Tank.
The Tank, an M4 Sherman nicknamed “Able Abe”, was part of the A Company, 40th Tank Battalion, 7thArmored Division during WW2. During the Battle of Overloon on October 1, 1944, “Able Abe” was disabled during fighting west of Overloon. Technical Specialist 4 Allan “Buddy” Persons was killed in the tank during the battle.
The Tank was restored by the 7th Armored Division Memorial Holland Association and placed as a monument in 2011 outside the Overloon War museum.
