Attached on the base of the Pilgrim Father’s Memorial, above the main memorial tablet.


Plaque

A rectangular bronze plaque with raised border inscribed in English in relief lettering. Two American flags are depicted on the left and right-hand corners of the tablet. The plaque is a tribute to men and women of the US Forces who sailed from Southampton between D-Day and VE-Day.

THIS TABLET WAS PRESENTED BY THE 14TH MAJOR

PORT, UNITED STATES ARMY IN PROUD TRIBUTE

TO OVER TWO MILLION MEN AND WOMEN OF THE

UNITED STATES FORCES WHO, TOGETHER WITH

THEIR GALLANT ALLIES, SAILED FROM SOUTHAMPTON

BETWEEN 'D' DAY JUNE 6TH, 1944, AND THE DAY OF

VICTORY TO LIBERATE THE CONTINENT OF

EUROPE FROM AGGRESSION, IN ORDER THAT

THE FREEDOM FOR WHICH THE PILGRIM FATHERS

STROVE SHOULD NOT BE LOST.
