US Appreciation Plaque

Plaque

A bronze plaque with black background affixed on the surface of a segmental stone that is set on a small paved area. On the top of the plaque are the reliefs of the Technician 5th Grade badge, crossed flags of the USA and Union Jack, and a First Sergeant badge. On the bottom right corner is the relief of the 4th Infantry Division insignia while on the opposite is the 8th Infantry Division insignia. The plaque is inscribed in English text with gold-leaf lettering. On the front side of the stone, a separate stone is inset into the middle. The memorial was placed to show the gratitude of the people of the USA to the town for the hospitality shown to American soldiers before D-Day.

OF SEATTON FOR ALL THEY DID FOR OUR SOLDIERS AND TO

COMMEMORATE OUR FATHER, 1SG ROBERT G. RUDMAN

AND HIS BEST FRIEND T/5 BERTON NICHOLLS OF

H COMPANY, AND ALL THE BRAVE AMERICANS OF THE

2ND BATTALION, 8TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 4TH

INFANTRY DIVISION WHO LEFT THESE SHORES TO

BE THE FIRST ALLIED UNITS ON THE BEACHES OF

NORMANDY FRANCE ON D-DAY, JUNE 6TH, 1944

(UTAH BEACH)...MANY NEVER TO RETURN TO US.
