Next to a large concrete tower on the roadside pull-off and pass lookout and adjacent to memorials erected by the Japanese and Chinese Overseas Wartime Hsuehkan Militia (COWHM)- guerillas who fought along side of US Forces.

A 12’ tall gray stone obelisk with bronze plaque at the base .

 

The monument remembers the 25th Infantry Division’s actions during the “Battle of Balete Pass – a critical road network for the enemy to evacuate forces from Luzon.  The battle took place in the Spring of 1945 and the fighting was fierce.  The pass was renamed in honor of  Brigadier General James Dalton, Assistant Division Commander of the 25th Infantry Division, who was killed on Balete pass on May 16, 1945.

The inscription on the plaque is in English and reads:

 

Erected in honor of those 

soldiers of the 25th Division 

who sacrificed their lives in 

winning this desperate struggle.

killed and wounded.
