William McCowan Memorial

On the east side of the pathway leading to the entrance door of the church. The monument could be easily seen as it towers above any other gravestones. Monument

An obelisk set on rectangular plinth with a white stone plaque inscribe in English text. Below the plaque is another inscription for Daniel McCowan who erected the memorial. Daniel McCowan (William’s son) has also added the names of other family members on side panels and had a weaver’s shuttle carved above. The memorial honors the memory of William McCowan who, after immigrating to the US from Scotland, enlisted in the Union Army during the American Civil War.  He died of disease before seeing combat.
