Sergeant Cuthbert Tank Crew Memorial -741st Tank Battalion
Details:
On the east side of the road, across from the Felsenkeller building. Monument
A black, rounded
rectangle slab monument facing the square. Two plaques are attached on it. The
first plaque was written poetically in German and the second commemorates the
crew.
On April 18, 1945 at the intersection of Karl Heine Str. and Zschochersche Str., Leipzig, Germany, the crew of Sgt. George J. Cuthbert, Jr. was Killed in Action after their M4 tank was hit by a Panzerfaust during the city's liberation. The 741st Tank Battalion was attached to the 2nd Infantry Division during the liberation of Leipzig.
