LT John Fox, Marker, 92nd Infantry Division
Details:
The marker is located in the woods above the upper parking lot in the town.
A white stone inscribed marker about 3 feet tall.
The marker marks the location where Lieutenant John R. Fox of the 366th Infantry Regiment, 92nd “Buffalo Soldiers” Infantry Division fell on December 26, 1944 while defending the town against an enemy attack as part of Operation Winter Storm.
LT Fox was killed along with several Italian Partisans who were also defending the village. The village celebrates LT Fox’s sacrifice each December 26 with a celebration.
Lt Fox was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions on December 26, 1944.
