Below the Monte Battaglia peak, on the south side (facing Tuscany) along a trail for about 100 meters following signs.

An inscribed metal plaque about 12” by 12” mounted to a wall marking the location where the soldiers remains we found.

SGT Harold E. Fechter was assigned to Company B, 350^th Infantry Regiment, 88^th Infantry Division during eh Second World War.  During the Battle of Monte Battaglia, Fechter was killed on October 3, 1944 and he was listed as Missing in Action (MIA).  His name was inscribed on the Tablet of the Missing at the Florence American Cemetery in Impruneta.  

A body of an unknown was discovered in 1988 which would turn out to be SGT Fechter. SGT Fechter’s remains were recovered and identified in 2007. He is interred at a private cemetery in Kansas. SGT Fechter's name is permanently inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing at the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial.

When an individual’s remains have been accounted for by the U.S. Department of Defense, a rosette is placed next to the name on the Wall/Tablet/Court of the Missing to mark that the person now rests in a known gravesite.
