Monument to Operation Cowboy Casualties
Details:
An altar sized monument on the ground, off the main road, in front of the church adjacent to a parking lot.
An altar shaped monument with a bronze of a fallen soldier on top and a white inscribed marble in the front.
The monument remember two soldiers of the 42ndCavalry Squadron who as part of Task Force Stewart, fell during Operation Cowboy – the daring April 1945 mission to save the famous Lipizzaner horses of the Vienna Spanish Riding school.
The town of Bela Nad Radbuzou dedicated the monument to remember the only two US casualties during this end of war mission to save the horses which were housed in nearby Hostoun (Hostau).
Another marker in town identifies the exact location where the soldiers fell and one in Vienna remembers the effort the US Army provided in returning these horses to safety.
