On the town’s war memorial. Plaque
A black stone plaque with French text inscription and the division’s insignia. Dedicated to 12 soldiers of the 761st Tank Battalion who lost their lives in the town’s liberation.
The 761st "Black Panthers" was an African American unit; their motto was "Come Out Fighting". This was the units first engagement during WW2.
During this battle, Staff Sergeant Ruben Rivers was awarded the Medal of Honor; he was killed a week later nearby.
