388th Bomb Group Plaque
Details:
This plaque is located on the interior of the church, immediately across the aisle from the entrance. Plaque This black stone plaque is mounted on a white marble base. The plaque features two small representations of an Aviator Badge with a propellor in the upper left and right hand corner. The English text of the plaque is in gold lettering and it commemorates all of the aviators and crew members from the 388th Bomb Group who died during the Second World War. The Air Force Station mentioned in the plaque is Station 136, also known as Royal Air Force Base Knettishall which is located just north of the church. The 388th Bomb Group was stationed here during the Second World War and attacked important industrial targets in Germany and Belgium and provided aerial support for the Allied invasions of Normandy and the Netherlands.
