3rd Armored Division Plaque
Details:
This plaque is located in the top left hand corner of the tall field stone at the Houffalize town square site. Plaque This bronze plaque features the "Spearhead" insignia of the 3rd Armored Division. The plaque's English text commemorates each of the countries and campaigns where the 3rd Armored Division fought during the Second World War.
The 3rd Armored Division earned its "Spearhead" nickname because of the energy and resilience which the unit demonstrated by driving from St. Lo, France, to the Elbe River in Germany. Moreover, the 3rd Armored Division was the first Allied unit to actually attack Germany. The 3rd Armored Division drove south toward Houffalize as part of the 1st U.S. Army during the Battle of the Bulge.
