2nd Armored Division Plaque
Details:
This plaque is located in the top right hand corner of the tall field stone that holds the plaques at the Houffalize town square site. Plaque This bronze plaque is mounted on a gray field stone. If features the "Hell On Wheels" insignia of the 2nd Armored Division as well as a bilingual English and French inscription that commemorates the the sacrifice of the soldiers of the 2nd Armored Division.
During the Battle of the Bulge and the push toward Houffalize, the 2nd Armored Division approached from the nearby town of Achouffe and, like the other American units, had to fight through snow and ice. Fortunately, however, after several weeks of movement toward the town, units of the 2nd Armored Division crossed the Orthe River on January 16, 1945.
