825th Tank Destroyer Battalion and 291st Engineer Combat Battalion Plaque
Details:
This plaque is located on a stone base that sits in the middle of the small grassy area that is part of the Stavelot Roadside site. It is situated above another plaque and below a small glass display case that features the insignia of three different American military units. Plaque This metal plaque is fixed to a dark brown field stone and is shaped like a shield and features text in both English and French which commemorates the sacrifice of American soldiers of the 825th Tank Destroyer Battalion during the battle for Stavelot. In the top center of the plaque there a cross that is situated between two columns of text which describe the date and location of the battle. Below the cross there is a figure representing two tablets which bear the names of the soldiers killed during the battle. On either side of the tablet there is a small torch. Below the the torches, there is a small amount of text which describes where the plaque was made. Lastly, at the very bottom of the plaque, there is a short bilingual epitaph as well as a heart that is painted half in the colors of the Belgian flag and half in the stars and stripes of the American flag.
