5th Infantry Division Stele of Cunel

Details:

The 5th Infantry Division Stele of Cunel is located on the west side of D15 south of Cunel. The monument is surrounded by fields, but two small wooded areas on the opposite (east) side of the road are visible. Marker

The monument is a concrete pillar that bears the Red Diamond insignia of the 5th Infantry Division. The 5th ID trained with French forces during June 1918 immediately before entering active service. The unit participated in the reduction of the St. Mihiel salient, an important offensive that advanced the front lines, as well as the Meuse-Argonne offensive. This particular monument resides in the Meuse-Argonne sector.

This monument was recently refurbished and repainted thanks to the generous support of Le Souvenir Français and its partners.
