LTC Richard Derby was the Division Surgeon of the 2nd Infantry Division and used this church as the site of the 1st Field Hospital during the battle of Belleau Wood. His family later donated to rebuild the church clock tower.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION:  In hommage of the Derby-Roosevelt Family whose generosity permitted the reconstruction of the clock tower of our church, used as a Field Hospital in June 1918 by LTC Richard Derby. The residents of Bezu are grateful.  19 June 1997.
