English translation:
Here stood the monument erected to the glory of the American soldiers of general Pershing, defenders of the same ideals of law and liberty which led to America, Lafayette and his volunteers leaving these shores in 1777.
The monument symbolized the brotherhood of arms and the Franco-American friendship.
It was destroyed on May 30, 1942 by the German occupation troops. It will be reedified by the French people.
