Monument

A cylindrical concrete stele on a pink granite base. Engraved with French text on the stele and on the base.  Honors the memory of Ronald Hoskier, shot down near here in aerial combat.

Ici est tombe le 23 avril 1917 a une heure de l'apres midi apres un dur combat contre trois avions ennemis le sergent pilote Ronald Wood Hoskier age de 21 ans aviateur voluntair americaine de l'Escadrille Lafayette avec son mitrailleur l'adjutant francais Jean Dressy, age de 28 ans.

De chacun d'eux on peut dire "J'ai combattu le bon combat, j'ai acheve la course, j'ai garde la foix."  2. Tim. IV. 7.  "Cette parole est certain:  Si nous sommes mort avec lui, nous vivrons aussi avec lui."  2. Tim. 11. 11.  "

ENGLISH TRANSLATION:  Pilot Sergeant Ronald Wood Hoskier, 21 year old volunteer in the Lafayette Escadrille, was shot down here at one o'clock in the afternoon on 23 April 1917 after a difficult combat against three enemy aircraft, along with his machine gunner, French adjutand Jean Dressy, 28 years old.
