The site is located in the village of Hottelstedt, in the rural municipality of Am Ettersberg in the northern part of the Weimarer Land district of the German state of Thüringen. Hottelstedt is approximately 11 kilomters northwest from Weimar city center, 16 kilometers northeast of Erfurt, the Capital of Thüringen, and 2.3 kilometers of the Buchenwald Concentration Camp.
