Elbert H. Cox was born on May 5, 1899 in Kentucky. He was the son of Ambrose J. and Emma L. He was an employee in planning mill in Rushville, Indiana when he enlisted in U.S. Regular Army on April 15, 1917 in Indianapolis, Ind. He was sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo. and was assigned to Company K, 18th Infantry. He went overseas in June 1917and was attached to the First Division. He was Killed in Action on July 18, 1918 (at the age of 19) in France and is now buried in East Hill Cemetery, Rushville, Rush County, Indiana, USA. His first name initial is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as A.
