When Arthur R Stanley was born on January 11, 1894, in Des Moines, Iowa, his father, Joseph, was 29 and his mother, Oriana, was 22. He had four brothers and two sisters. He entered the military service in Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company B, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on July 26, 1918 and is now buried in Suresnes American Cemetery, Suresnes, France. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument in the 18th Infantry.
