When Ray Ryder was born on May 12, 1891, in Syracuse, New York, his father, John, was 42 and his mother, Mary, was 38. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company H, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 18, 1918 in France at the age of 27 and is now buried in Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Westvale, Onondaga County, New York, USA.
