When Silas S. Triplett was born in October 1886 in Wilkes, North Carolina, his father, Thomas, was 23 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 26. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in Machine Gun Company, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on May 28, 1918 and is now buried in Edgewood Baptist Church Cemetery, North Wilkesboro, Wilkes County, North Carolina, USA. His name is inscribed on the Cantigny monument as CPL S TRIPPLETT.
