Sam A. Schmidt was born on May 1, 1894. He entered the military service in Wisconsin. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company C, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. Sam was killed in the Battle of Cantigny at Somme, Picardie, France on May 30, 1918. He is memorialized in the Tablets of the Missing at the Somme American Cemetery.
