When Arthur Garber was born on July 6, 1898, his father, Eli, was 40 and his mother, Esther, was 29. He had two brothers and five sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company D, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 3, 1918 and is now buried in Beth Israel Cemetery, West Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts, USA.
