When Norval Sparks was born on October 25, 1909, his father, Wait, was 25 and his mother, Velinta, was 21. He married Carrie Davis in 1933 in Peach Creek, West Virginia. They had one child during their marriage. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Technician Fifth Grade in the 111th Engineer Combat Battalion, 36th Infantry Division. He entered service in California. He died on August 26, 1944 during the invasion of southern France. He is now buried at Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, USA.
