When Lyle W Crook was born on February 11, 1913, in Butler, Iowa, his father, Frank, was 26 and his mother, Esther, was 24. He married Mabel M Hansen on March 31, 1934, in Manly, Iowa. They had one child during their marriage. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a First Lieutenant in the 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division. He entered service in Iowa. He died on August 28, 1944 during the invasion of southern France. He is now buried at Rhone American Cemetery and Memorial, Draguignan, Departement du Var, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France.
