Comments:

2nd Lt Glenn Goodrich, pilot of the P-38 Lightning 42-67518, took off from station 454 in Warmwell, Dorset, UK on a mission over Mantes-Gassicourt. His flight career might never have materialized due to his crooked teeth (unable to hold a gas mask). He trained to be a glider pilot but was phased out when it didn’t perform as hoped. The Army then straightened his teeth and sent him on to flight school. Mantes-Gassicourt was his fifth mission. They were attacked by 50 German fighters, damaging 17 while only losing 3 of their own planes. Goodrich was one of the casualties. His plane was observed having trouble with its left engine before catching fire at 1000 feet. He climbed rapidly and banked away. The time was 0935. He was never seen again.
