1st Lt Ronald M. Nichols took off with his navigator 2nd Lt Helbert F. Harris in a Mosquito NS-533 from Celone, Italy on a reconnaissance mission over Toulouse. Their two P-51 escorts accidently shot them, setting fire to the plane at 12000 feet. Only Harris was able to bail out.
