Sgt Karl Waldemar Haeuser was a gunner on the Douglas A-20 Havoc 43-9502 when it took off from Station 154 Gosfield, UK, on a bombing mission to Rouen. The plane was hit by flak at 2015 hours. Haeuser was captured in Grand Couronne and sent to Stalag Luft 4 in Gross-Tychow. Karl was imprisoned for 601 days; one year and nine months. He was included in the number of survivors liberated when released to Americans after the 86-day German Death March, as WW II ended in 1946. He died on March 29, 2017 at the age of 95 in Cayucos, California and is now buried in the Cayucos-Morro Bay District Cemetery, Cayucos, San Luis Obispo County, California, USA.
