When Donald O. Manley was born in 1924 in Springfield, Massachusetts, his father, Oral, was 30 and his mother, Almira, was 27. He had three brothers. He was a graduate of the local high school, class of 1943. He entered the Service on May 31, 1944 and received his basic training at Camp Wheeler, VA. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was slightly wounded in action on February 3,1945, hospitalized and returned to duty in Germany on February 20,1945. He was Killed in Action on February 26, 1945 and is now buried in Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium. He also has a mark inNorwich Bridge Cemetery, Huntington, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA.
