Eugene Cyril Lewis was born on July 18, 1914. He was the son of Arthur E. Lewis and Anna S. Simpson Lewis.

He first enlisted in the Army on Sept. 11 1935 and served with Company E of the 28th Infantry at Plattsburg, NY and Fort Niagara, NY. He was recognized as a expert with small arms and won many adwards as a member of the rifle team at Fort Niagara. After his term of enlistment he left the Army.

He enlisted a second time in the Army on November 15, 1941, prior to the war, at Camp Croft, South Carolina and was given the rank of Sergeant. He was noted at that time as being a former Soldier and also as Married.

Eugene then served as a cadre instructor at Fort Jackson, Camp Croft, SC, Fort McClellan, Al., and Camp Blanding, FL. He went overseas in July 1944.

Eugene served as a Sergeant, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II. Eugene was "Killed In Action" at Pingsheim, Germany during the war and was awarded a Purple Heart.
