When Wallace H. Gaucher was born in 1923 in Massachusetts, his father, Wallace, was 21 and his mother, Mildred, was 19. He had two brothers and three sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Sergeant in the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on May 5, 1945 and is now buried in Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-Avold, Departement de la Moselle, Lorraine, France.
