When Thomas W. Yarborough was born on September 5, 1917, in South Carolina, his father, David, was 27 and his mother, Helen, was 27. He had three brothers and one sister. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a First Lieutenant in the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on April 23, 1945 and is now buried in Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial, Margraten, Eijsden-Margraten Municipality, Limburg, Netherlands. He is also commemorated on a WWII monument at Mt. Zion Park, Winnsboro, Fairfield County, South Carolina and has a cenotaph in Little River Cemetery, Jenkinsville, Fairfield County, South Carolina, USA.
