Francis L. Rausch, son of Mr. and Mrs. V. N. Rausch, was born February 7, 1921, at Sutherland, Iowa. Francis grew to manhood in this community. It was here he attended the public school from which he was graduated with the class of 1938. He was united in marriage to Helen Struve, now Mrs. Lloyd Rohwer, of Gaza, Iowa, on January 24, 1943, at Harlingen, Texas. To this union were born two children, David Francis, and Donna Vicki Rausch. He attended Sunday School and church at the Methodist Church of which he was a member. After graduation he assisted his father in business until the time of his induction.

After his induction on October 7, 1942, at Primghar, he spent the next 2-1/2 years in various army camps in the United States, and on March 6, 1945, he was sent overseas and served in the European Theatre until the time of his death two months later. He was killed in action on May 1, 1945, in Czechoslovakia while serving his country with Hodgen's 1st Army, 1st Division, 16th Infantry. He was temporarily buried at Nuremburg, Germany, and later moved to the U. S. Military Cemetery St. Avold at Metz, France. He is now buried in Waterman Cemetery, Sutherland, O'Brien County, Iowa, USA.
