When Nicholas J. Popovits was born on November 28, 1912, in Michigan, his father, Nicholas, was 23 and his mother, Gizella, was 21. He had three sons and one daughter with Nervetta I. Bowen between 1936 and 1938. He enlisted in the Army on April 7, 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on March 19, 1945 and is now buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Eastwood, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, USA.
