Denson Homer Benefield was born on April 22, 1931, in Talladega County, Alabama. He was the son of William David Benefield and Viola Vanderslice Benefield. He was a former employee of The Daily Home in its mechanical department and was drafted into the U.S. Army on January 11, 1952. After completing basic training, he was sent to Germany, where he later volunteered for combat duty in Korea. He served in Company A, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, as a Private and Light Weapons Assault Crewman during the Korean War.

Pvt Benefield was Killed in Action on March 29, 1953, when he was struck by a land mine in North Korea. He was buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Talladega, Talladega County, Alabama, USA.
