Elmore C. Bates was born on July 25, 1922, in Florida. He was the son of Sam Houston Bates and Grace G. Turnbull Bates. He served in Company E, 2nd Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division, as a Sergeant First Class and Duty NCO during the Korean War.
SFC Bates was Killed in Action on November 5, 1950, in North Korea. He is now buried in the Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, East Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama, USA.
