James Freddie Barrier was born on April 7, 1930, in Lauderdale County, Alabama. He was the son of Dueward G. Barrier and Euin Lallion Franklin Barrier. He served in the 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, as a Private and Light Weapons Infantryman during the Korean War.

Pvt Barrier was Killed in Action on September 12, 1951, near the Iron Triangle in North Korea. He is now buried in the Fielder's Cemetery, Walnut Grove, Hardin County, Tennessee, USA.
