William Albert Barker was born on November 24, 1932, in Jefferson County, Alabama. He was the son of John W. Smith. He served in the Medical Company, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, as a Sergeant and Medical Aidman during the Korean War.

Sgt Barker was Killed in Action on November 23, 1951, while tending his wounded comrades in North Korea. He is now buried in the Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery, Remlap, Blount County, Alabama, USA.
