Charles Marion Bailey was born on March 2, 1929, in North Carolina. He was the son of John Willis Bailey Jr. and Alda Merrill Bailey. He served in the 1st Airborne Ranger Company, 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team attached to the 23rd Infantry Regiment as a Sergeant First Class during the Korean War.

SFC Bailey was Killed in Action on May 19, 1951, in South Korea. He is now buried in the Old Bull Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Mars Hill, Madison County, North Carolina, USA.
