Joe Thomas was born on March 8, 1912. He left the Mill to go to the Infantry on February 17, 1942. Overseas he served in Company B of the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. While advancing with his company in the drive into the heart of Germany from the First Army bridgehead east of the Rhine, Private First Class Thomas was killed by the explosion of an enemy artillery shell on April 19, 1945. He was first buried in a US Military Cemetery in Germany and is now buried in Vicksburg National Cemetery, Vicksburg, Warren County, Mississippi, USA.
