William A. Sorenson, son of Mrs. Allen Brown of Castle, CA, was born in 1916 in Minnesota. The family came to Forrest, IL, when he was a youth and it was there that he graduated from the high school. Sorenson married Stella Eckhoff and had a daughter, Joann, with her. While serving as a civilian employee in the commissary at Chanute Field, in Rantoul, Sorenson was inducted into the Army. He was sent to Camp Lee, Petersburg, VA for training in the Quartermaster Corps. Later he was transferred to the state of Washington where he received training in the US Infantry before being sent overseas in March 1945, where he served with the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on April 15, 1945 and is now buried in Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial, Margraten, Eijsden-Margraten Municipality, Limburg, Netherlands. He was promoted to PFC posthumously after his death.
